“Without labor nothing prospers.” —Sophocles Every year Labour Day is celebrated all over the world on the first of May to acknowledge the vital role of labourers in a nation's progress. In this regard, a ceremony was held in IMCG (PG) F-7/2 today. The Chief Guest for the function was Principal of the college, Dr. Fauzia Tanveer Sheikh. The function was organised by the Department of Economics. The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by Naat-e-Rasul-e-Maqbool (s.a.w.w). An English documentary was presented by Maheen Khan, a student of BS Economics semester VI, on the history of May day. Sadia Komal, a pupil of BS Economics semester VI, educated the audience regarding the rights of the workers in Islam. The students of BS Economics semester VIII presented a spirited tableau on Labour Day. A student of BS Economics semester VIII, Amina bibi, presented a melodious poem on the significance of fair treatment of the labourers of the nation. Iffat and group from BS Economics semester IV dramatically depicted the plight of a labourer in this capitalist era. Fatima Noor from BS Economics semester VIII presented a poem on May day. Areeba and group presented a tableau on the unfair treatment of the diligent workers by the society. Maheen Khan presented a prayer for the labourers who are the unsung heroes of our nation. In her address, Dr. Fauzia Tanveer Sheikh greatly appreciated the efforts of the faculty and students of the Department of Economics for organising an excellent event today. She emphasized upon the importance of respecting the labourers for their toil and to work hard for achieving success in life and hereafter. The Principal of the college along with the head of the Department of Economics distributed certificates of appreciation among the participants of today's function. The program ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.
